When I was a kid, I had an animal track guide poster up on my wall. I had grown up on stories of animal trackers – hunters and naturalists living off of their wits in the great outdoors. Some of these were fiction, but a lot of them were true stories passed on by my grandpa – an animal tracker himself. He had spent much of his childhood years hunting wild game as a way to supplement the meager farm land that his family owned.
