Diaper Changing Tables and Bassinet Changing Tables

Antique, Baby, Furniture, Shopping, Uncategorized No Comments »

The use of the diaper changing table is an essential nursery item that most parents would need to use while in the care of their newborn. While you don’t absolutely have to own a changing table they are extremely useful. The first purpose of such a table is to make changing diapers easier. The elevated table surface allows for comfortable changing of diapers as the person changing the diapers is able to stand with the baby at the right height in front of them. This is much easier on your body than using a carpeted floor or even a bed as a makeshift changing area. Not to mention it keeps the potential mess contained to an easily cleaned area.

Baby Bathing

Baby Bathing

As new parents, perhaps one of the scariest things you have to do when you take your new baby home is to learn how to clean them properly. Doing baby bathing for the first time, after a few days of sponge bathing, means putting your infant into water and hoping to heaven that you don’t do anything to harm them. Babies can be slippery, and that is where the fear comes in. Those on their second and third babies are not quite as scared, but if some time has passed, they too can worry about doing something that could end in disaster.

You can do baby bathing with a soft cloth and water for a few days, and then you can add the most gentle cleanser you can find. It should always be a soap meant to be gentle for newborns and infants. This way of bathing a baby should be rather easy, but you do have to take care around the umbilical cord until it has fallen off. Once it has, you can go about baby bathing by putting them in a tub. You don’t want to use just any tub though, as that will be dangerous. You have to get one made just for tiny ones for the most control.

Some parents like to get into the adult tub and take their babies with them. That might be okay as long as you don’t use adult soaps, and you have someone there right beside you. However, many doctors will not recommend that you do newborn baby bathing that way. You should search out a tiny tub that is made just for babies and use that. Many comes so that you can lay the baby inside so that they are half sitting up. There is some water near the bottom, but their faces will not be near it.

When baby bathing, never walk away for even a moment. If you have to move away, pick up the baby and take him or her with you. Remember to be gentle, and take your time. Some babies love bathing because they find it soothing, and other find it frightening. It will depend on how nervous you appear to be. If you are calm, they will be calm too. Don’t forget the last and important step in baby bathing. Drying is just as important as cleaning. You want to remove all moisture on the body from the bath. Any left sitting on the skin can contribute to rash. Use powder to be extra safe.

baby shower gift

A different take on baby shower gift ideas

The birth of every baby is always a once in a lifetime occasion! Each baby is a unique little person, welcomed into the family with the special love and affection you feel for that new little one. When you’re giving a baby shower gift, or coordinating a baby shower, you want to have some frivolous items that are just pretty to look at, along with a good mix of baby shower gifts that are of a more practical nature.

Mom and Dad are going to be assuming some extra expenses as soon as baby is born. Diapers, diapers and more diapers are certainly a must. Bottles, blankets, washcloths, lotions – oh my, how the list goes on! I imagine that there was a time when you could put the child through college for less than it now takes to get them into grade school today. So there’s clearly a place for practical baby shower gifts.

Here’s how to coordinate a baby shower that is lovely, fun and practical. Mom and Dad will most certainly appreciate getting a head start on those baby supplies, especially when that hospital bill arrives! Let’s say you have ten or fifteen mutual friends who will be attending. Take the bull by the horns and simply let all the guests know that you’re trying to give a ‘value-added’ baby shower that will help the new parents save a few bucks, while still showering baby with lovelies for the nursery.

If someone in your group is an experienced quilter, see if you can’t persuade that person to organize a baby quilting group, with each guest making just one square of the finished quilt. Your quilter can help everyone with the basics, guiding the construction of the finished piece. Everyone designs and decorates their piece in whatever style is meaningful to them and Mom. Some may embroider, while another may create a collage or applique. This approach makes for a diverse and colorful quilt. Each contributor can ’sign’ their section with their initials. This isn’t especially time consuming, as each guest is only responsible for a small section. When put together, tres magnifique!

Another baby shower gift that is a sure hit is a baby doll with hand made clothes. You don’t need to be an expert seamstress for this task. If you can sew on a button and follow a pattern, you can do it. Come up with a group list of different outfits and let everyone choose their favorite. From pirate costumes to sailor suits, from Victorian dresses to nurse outfits and fairy tale princess dresses, this baby shower gift idea is always a winner.

Now, on to the more practical gifts. Have everyone get online and search out baby coupons. Collect as many as you can – Mom will love you for it! It’s unlikely she’ll have time to surf for coupons once baby is here. Search the coupon sites and baby manufacturer’s websites for a host of baby products, ranging from those pricey diapers to baby oil. Look for coupons for organic baby foods. Check out the baby magazines and other publications which give Mom a lifeline to baby information.

Depending on the size and budget of your group, think about pitching in to get a larger item, such as baby strollers and car seats, baby walkers and baby high chairs.

If you think that this type of baby shower gift is one Mom wants to choose for herself, try gathering some reviews and consumer reports on different brands of such items, for her perusal and final decision.

Now, whatever you do, know that your baby shower gift basket is not complete without some bath and beauty products for Mom. She’s the one with the two o’clock feedings! A three o’clock bubble bath may be just the thing!

Baby freebies

Baby No Comments »

A marvelous gift (on a shoestring) for a new Mom: Baby freebies!

If you’ve got a friend who’s just become a Mom – or a friend with a baby on the way, here’s a great gift idea that, while providing plenty of value and savings for Mom, won’t cost you anything but a bit of your time. So what’s the answer to this riddle? Baby freebies! Manufacturers of baby products know that once Mom uses and likes a product, she’s likely to stick with that product, rather than go with another untested product. (If it’s not broken, why fix it?) That’s why baby-related product companies go to great lengths to get Moms to try their products. This includes baby coupons, free samples and free copies of baby and parenting magazines, on a trial basis.

When you stop to think about all of the specialized products made just for babies, it’s staggering. Before baby’s out of diapers, Mom’s going to purchase – what – maybe ten thousand? There are baby shampoos, diaper rash creams, lotions, bath toys, baby food, blankets – the list is virtually endless. How about a diaper pail, wash cloths and towels? Bottles and nipples? So you can see that Mom’s got her hands full and a purse that can get seriously depleted in no time.

While she doesn’t have the time to go find all these baby freebies and money-saving coupons, you do! Do her a huge favor by getting online and tracking down some of the many websites that specialize in baby freebie offers. Don’t forget about the manufacturer’s sites, too.

When it comes to some of the bigger ticket items, like high chairs, strollers, playpens and changing tables, you’ll be surprised to find that manufacturers often offer substantial dollars off coupons, if you just take the trouble to find them!

One good strategy for obtaining baby freebies is to write the manufacturer of some of the more costly baby products, such as baby cribs and car seats and let them know that you’ve used their products in the past and would like to tell a friend who’s a new or expectant Mom to look into their products. Do they have any coupons or promotions that might encourage her to buy from them?

For example, there are now several brands of organic baby foods, all vying for their share of the market. See how many coupons you can gather for each brand. More and more Moms are using the organic baby foods, even though they’re more costly than the regular types. With several coupons in hand, Mom can try each brand for a discounted price and decide which baby likes best, while saving money on the grocery bill.

As you surf around searching out these deals, copy and paste the urls of these websites into a printable file to accompany a big fat envelope of baby coupons and a box full of baby freebies. With the research done, it’s then easy for Mom to follow up and keep a steady flow of baby freebies coming through the mail. What a great gift for Mom!

Jogging Strollers

Get in Shape With Jogging Strollers

My sister had her first baby six months ago, and the two of them are finally settling into a comfortable daily routine. Since the baby sleeps through most nights now, my sister’s energy levels are returning to normal, and she’s becoming increasingly anxious to get back into a fitness routine to lose some of the weight she gained during pregnancy. When she told me about this, I recommended buying a jogging stroller so she can exercise even with the baby in tow.

I used a jogging stroller back when my son was still in diapers, and I thought it was fantastic! It’s a great way to walk, jog, or run your way into shape after having a baby, and eliminates that built-in excuse about not being able to find a sitter. Plus, babies love taking in all the new sights and sounds while riding in jogging strollers, so these exercise outings will become something to look forward to.

My sister liked the idea, and agreed that a jogging stroller would be perfect for her situation. Unfortunately, I got rid of my old jogger during a garage sale a couple years ago, otherwise I would have gladly given it to her to use. At any rate, I can at least help her shop for one, since I still remember all of the important qualities and features to look for.

The first thing I would look for in jogging strollers is comfort. Does it offer a smooth and comfortable ride for the baby? Is it easy to push and maneuver? Comfort is usually a function of design, so I would check out the wheel size and alignment, as well as the handlebar placement (and whether or not the handlebars are adjustable).

A second thing I would look for is durability. Jogging strollers are so popular these days that a lot of manufacturers are putting out cheaper products to take advantage of the demand. But since my sister intends to use the jogging stroller for a few years, I told her to spend some extra money on a good piece of equipment.

And finally, I would take the amenities and accessories into consideration. Is the canopy a sufficient size? Does the unit have holders for a water bottle and/or baby’s sippy cup? Is there a storage compartment for the diaper bag? Is the harness easy to buckle and unbuckle?

I know this isn’t a comprehensive shopping guide, but I think it’s a pretty good place to start. If my sister keeps all of these points in mind while she’s looking at jogging strollers, she’ll end up with a quality product that will last for years.

Where To Get Certified Copies of Birth Certificates

Where To Get Certified Copies of Birth Certificates

There are many times in life when you may need a copy of your birth certificate. Though you may have a copy of yours, you may find that some places will not accept just any old copy. This is something that is happening more and more today, simply because of the risks of identity theft and increased security due to terrorism. When someone asks you for certified copies of birth certificates for you and members of your family, you have to know where to get them and how fast they can come to you when you need them.

It might seem like a hassle to get certified copies of birth certificates, but you have to consider what this means to you. You may have to go through a lot of trouble to get one, but that also means that someone else would have the same trouble if they were trying to order certified birth certificates for you or some of your family. You should understand that this means you are a bit more secure. It is much harder for someone to get your identity for whatever reasons they have in mind, and none of those reasons are ever good.

The times when you may need certified copies of birth certificates will vary. Sometimes you may need them to sign up for utility service in some towns and cities, and you may very well need this specific type when you are getting your driver’s license. Some companies will still let you sign up for some things via the phone, but more and more want to be sure you are who you say you are. Remember, even though that might seem like a huge inconvenience, it is for your own protection. At least you know that no one else can get services in your name. That could easily ruin your credit.

If you are asked for certified copies of birth certificates, you are probably going to have to send away for them, and you will have to do so through your state of birth. You may have to find a way to identify yourself, but you can order online in many states if you wish. The requirements for each state will differ, so visit your state’s official site to see what you have to do and how long it will take for you to get what you need. In some cases, you may get things in days, and other times it might take weeks. Once you get your certified copies of birth certificates, make sure you take good care of them and keep them locked up for your own protection.

Five tips on 1st birthday party ideas that make that special occasion memorable!

Five tips on 1st birthday party ideas that make that special occasion memorable!

Your baby’s first birthday is approaching. We all get only one first birthday, so we want to make the occasion special and memorable. By the time baby’s grown up and thinking of starting his own family, it’s nice to have a permanent family record of this one and singular event. Here are some tips on 1st birthday party ideas that make the most of your future cherished memories.

Think about where you’d like to have this birthday party. If the weather is nice, an outdoor location, in your backyard or at the park, gives you so many photo-ops with nature as the backdrop. A visit to a farm animal zoo also provides lots of cute picture possibilities for that important 1st birthday party. Ideas for great locations are, of course dependent on your locale, but it’s certain there are tons of great places you can hold this glorious celebration. In inclement weather, it’s just as fine to hold an indoor party. Your imaginative decorations can make terrific backdrops just as well.

In either case, you’ll want to visit a party supply store. These stores have every imaginable theme and accessory you’ll need to inspire colorful and creative 1st birthday party ideas. Store clerks can also point out some of the most fabulous items you might overlook, so ask for advice. Look online as well. If you’re short on time, as any mother of a 1 year old is, online shopping saves time and money, as well as sparking your imagination for those really good 1st birthday party ideas. If you find a great decoration that’s a bit outside of your budget, consider making something similar at home. Visit craft sites for more inspiration.

As for gifts, try to include a few keepsake items that last, virtually, forever. Gifts such as a silver spoon, an engraved picture frame, little treasure box or the famous bronzed shoes can be handed down when baby’s grown with a family of her own. Of course, there will be toys too, but keepsake gifts become more treasured as the years pass.

Another great commemorative 1st birthday party idea is the photo mini-album.  Parents are known to take plenty of pictures! When you’ve developed all of the pictures of this joyful party, choose the five – or ten – cutest pics. Get a mini photo album for every family member and friend in attendance and make sure everyone gets a copy. Alternatively, you can also burn your photos on to a CD, which is a good idea anyway, as a backup. This way, you can quickly and easily share the occasion with relatives and friends across the country. Also be sure that one copy of your mini photo album and a CD is preserved for baby in later years. Just squirrel it away for now. Your baby’s future wife or husband, as well as your grandchildren, will be thrilled to have this ultimate keepsake.

Now for the birthday cake. A cake topped with whipping cream and filled with ice cream provides some of the cutest 1st birthday party photos you’ll ever find. A one year old with such an inviting ‘meal’ right in front of them, isn’t going to be looking for a fork. It’s going to be finger food. We had such a cake for our daughter’s first birthday and she was so enthralled, she decided to plunge her face onto the cake for a close up and personal look! We captured that moment with a camcorder. It’s priceless. She first looked over this amazing meal, looked up and smiled and then tried to kiss the cake! When her face encountered whipped cream and a bit of chocolate, she looked up in utter surprise. However, she recovered quickly and used her fingers to clean her face in a taste-as-you-go operation. Cute, cute, cute!

Remember, the best 1st birthday party ideas come from you! Photographic evidence is the key to those treasured memories!
