anti aging diet plan

Dieting No Comments »

It’s never too late to launch an anti aging diet plan!

With people living longer than in past centuries, we all want to age as gracefully as possible. We want nice skin and a fit, trim appearance. We don’t want wrinkles, flab or prematurely graying hair. The gray can be fixed with a little 5-minute touch up hair product, but the rest is dependent on how well you take care of yourself. The older you get, the better you understand that you are, indeed, what you eat. If you eat poorly, it will eventually, show up in your appearance. Whether you’re young or old, now is a good time to launch your anti aging diet program.

First, consider the amount of food you eat. Many credible studies have shown, time and time again, that people who eat less food, live longer and look better. Most of us eat far more, in sheer volume, than is necessary to good health. In addition, the types of food we eat on a regular basis are often way off base in terms of nutrition. Junk food, anyone? Eating slowly and chewing your food thoroughly aids in letting you know when you’ve eaten enough, as well as helping to maintain good digestive health over a lifetime. So, this is the starting point and suggested strategy for any good anti aging diet.

Antioxidants are well known as the ‘anti-cancer’ nutrients. These little miracle workers are also absolutely great for your skin. As a rule of thumb, red, yellow and orange colored fruits and vegetables are good sources of antioxidant nutrients, so load up on these when planning your anti aging diet menus.

As possible, restrict your intake of fatty and fried foods. The occasional big juicy steak or package of fries isn’t going to kill you, but can’t be a regular part of a successful anti aging diet plan. Besides the weight issue, these fats can be harmful to your heart and lead to cholesterol problems.

Lean meats are the way to go. You may be surprised to know that just 20 grams of protein each day is all you need for good health. However, teens and athletic types may require more. Chicken, fish and lean pork loin are good choices for your anti-aging diet plan. While a bit more expensive, the ‘natural’ meats, where the animals have not been treated with antibiotics and are fed only grains, grown without pesticides are preferable in the anti aging diet. Those undesirable chemicals and toxins don’t end up inside your body. The meat does taste better and you may find a smaller portion fills you up.

Drinking plenty of water is essential to your purpose. The easiest way to make sure this happens is to have a designated drinking glass, with you sipping throughout the day. This keeps your kidneys in good shape and flushes out the toxins we ingest every day.

With the exception of chocolate (my weakness), there’s not much good to be said about sugar. Just about everyone eats much too much of this substance, even unknowingly. For example, read the label of any prepared or processed food. From soup to frozen entrees, sugar is added, along with salt, the only reason being to ‘enhance’ the flavor. Over a lifetime, excessive amounts of sugar and salt can produce a variety of ailments.

In concert with your anti aging diet program, begin a regular, consistent program of exercise. It can be as simple as walking just a half hour each day.

Following these guidelines will produce great results you’ll see and feel in the space of a few short months!

a healthy diet

What’s a healthy diet? It may be all in your genes!

We’re bombarded with information on a healthy diet. We can turn to the new food pyramid and the general consensus of what makes for a healthy diet. Sure, we all know that we’re supposed to eat 5-8 servings of fruits and veggies each day. The dreaded eight glasses of water figure prominently in this healthy diet. Antioxidants, trans fats, saturated fats, monitoring of sugar and salt intake all figure in to a healthy diet program. However, genetics do play a major role in what’s healthy for you, the individual. Let’s see how you can tailor your diet to your specific dietary needs.

It’s well documented that persons of a specific, non-Western ethnic descent who adopt a modern Western diet, often suffer from health conditions prevalent in their adopted dietary practices. For example, Eskimos, who survive and thrive on diets high in fat, develop health conditions that are detrimental, due to a lack of fats deemed ‘bad’ in our culinary culture. Native Americans survived well and in good health, on a diet full of animal meat, salted heavily and for the most part, absent of sugar. Scandinavian people have historically subsisted on fish, hale and hearty. In Asian cultures, seaweed, rice and vegetables have been the mainstay of a healthy diet.

When people adhere to the traditional healthy diet of their culture, disease is far less prevalent. The native Eskimo is far less likely to develop heart disease. The Native American, consuming a diet with far more sodium and less sugar, does not develop high blood pressure or diabetes. The person of Scandinavian descent, sticking with the traditional fish overload, is less likely to develop arthritis! On the face of it, it doesn’t make sense. We’re warned about the dangers of a high-fat diet, excessive sodium and the absence of platefuls of veggies. Yet, these traditional diets are a healthy diet, at least for those in specific ethnic groups.

So what’s the secret to a healthy diet? Track down your ethnic roots and see what food prevail in your genetic heritage. Search out statistics on health conditions. It might well be that, genetically, you require more salt, despite what your physician has to say. My husband is living proof. He salts his food to a degree that I cannot enjoy. Yet, his blood pressure and cholesterol levels are perfect! My own Scandinavian roots seem to infuse me with a need for fish. When I consume plentiful amounts of fish (with those bounteous amounts of Omega-3s, I feel in the pink. Deprive me and my health suffers.

When you’re looking for a healthy diet plan, consider your ethnicity. Be sensible, but pay attention to those cultural statistics! This a key factor in melding the food pyramid with your individual healthy diet.

Apple Cider Vinegar Diet

Apple Cider Vinegar Diet

About a week ago, I ran into an old friend who I had not seen in many months. I was immediately struck by his appearance. He was not thin exactly, but he certainly wasn’t all that overweight. Last time I had seen him, he’d been incredibly obese. We were all actually a little bit worried about him to tell you the truth. It is unhealthy to be too heavy, and he was definitely closing in on morbidly obese.

I told him that he looked great, and he immediately launched into what looked like a product advertisement. He was ranting and raving about the apple cider vinegar diet. As I had never seen this particular friend get so excited about a product before, I was naturally curious. I hadn’t really heard much about apple cider vinegar benefits. I was usually pretty skeptical about alternative health stuff anyway. I usually prefer to trust in healthy food and exercise as sufficient to keep me in good shape.

Nonetheless, I was intrigued by his claim that the vinegar apple cider diet had caused him to lose a lot of weight. Certainly something had. I knew that I needed to lose a little bit of weight, so I figured I would give it a try. I bought some apple cider vinegar diet pills and got to work.

There are many different apples cider vinegar diets out there. Some of them simply advise you to take a certain dose of apple vinegar before every meal and don’t ask you to change anything else about your lifestyle. Other ones combine the treatment with healthy diet and exercise. I figured that, since I was already eating a pretty healthy diet, I would simply try to watch what I ate a little bit more and take the supplement. Between the increased calorie consciousness and the apple cider vinegar diet pills, something was bound to work.

I did lose all the weight that I had wanted to, and I lost it unexpectedly quickly. It usually takes me several weeks to lose even a few pounds, but I had shed all 10 pounds that I was trying to lose within about a week and a half. I was running every morning and eating very healthily, So I am sure that contributed, but it seems like the benefit of apple cider vinegar played the part as well. Honestly, I don’t know for sure, but I certainly would try again if I was trying to lose weight.
