Preserving Fresh Flowers

Tips For Preserving Fresh Flowers

My husband rarely buys me flowers because he thinks they are a waste of money. He has done it, but he always grumbles. I find this funny, and it does say a lot about who he is. His argument is a sound one, but that does not mean I don’t expect to get them, even if it is only once a year. He got me some before our wedding, with a card that said I could keep the vase even though the flowers will die. I showed him up by looking for ways to go about preserving fresh flowers. I made them last after all. It’s still a big joke between us.

There is one old way to go about preserving fresh flowers that still works today. You can always flatten them between the pages of a book. You can do this with any paper. What happens is the flower is flat, and the moisture is gone. They won’t last long this way, so you do have to take some extra steps. You can use hair spray on them to help them hold together, and then you should get some sort of sticky see-through papers that you can use as a wrap of sorts. You can cut them to size for a bookmark, or you can even frame them this way if you want.

When I wanted to save my wedding bouquet, I found a few options for preserving fresh flowers. One was to hang them upside down in a rather cool place after spraying them with hair spray. This worked well, but you do have to be very careful when you handle them when they are dry. They did retain their color for a while, but that will not always happen. It depends on quite a few factors that may be largely out of your control when preserving fresh flowers.

Another option I found was really neat, though I didn’t have the money to do it at the time. You can send your flowers away to a company that specializes in preserving fresh flowers for you in any form that you wish. Some use them in a frame with a poem or even a picture of your choosing. There are many great options. You can decide what you want when you find such a web site or company. They know all the tricks to preserving fresh flowers in the best possible way, and will do their best with what you have.

International Flower Delivery

International Flower Delivery

When a friend from the other side of the world was going through a tough time, I thought about

ways to let her know that I was thinking about her, and that I was always here if she needed

support. I automatically thought about sending flowers, but was afraid of online flower stores.

The last time I had tried one, things did not go well, and that was a domestic delivery. I

decided to put that all aside and try international flower delivery, simply because my friend

needed the pick-me-up and this was one of the best ways to give her just that.

I was grateful when my international flower delivery went off without a hitch. My friend was

quite shocked when she got her gift, and could not believe that I went to all that trouble just for

her. What she didn’t realize was that international flower delivery was actually rather painless,

and it was not quite as expensive as I thought it might be. Flowers, at least good ones, are

always a hefty price, but when they mean a lot to someone, it is always money well spent.

The delivery of flowers internationally worked almost the same as domestic delivery. Some

can run into problems when they don’t understand the country of destination in the way of

geography and how addresses are set up. Most of the time, the address system is the same

as the one we have in the United States, but there are some differences. When doing

international flower delivery, you must have a complete address, and it has to be a street

address, not a post office box. That way, the flowers can get where they need to go. If you don’t

have a complete address, you have to find one before ordering.

When you want to do international flower delivery, you should use the same common sense

you would use when you send flowers locally or within your own country. Find a site with a

name that is familiar, and then ask any questions that you may have. There may be some lag

time with flower delivery, and there may be times when it is not possible in some countries.

When you send flowers within your own country, the order is sent to a local flower store in that

area, and the same should happen with international flower delivery. As you might guess,

some companies have no way of getting orders filled in countries where they have no shops

affiliated with their system.

Cheap Roses

Florist No Comments »

Are cheap roses a good buy? That depends.

Men know that women are absolutely delighted to receive a bouquet of roses. A single, red rose, conveying everlasting, ‘you’re the one’, is always a hit. However, an old bunch of cheap roses, picked up at a florist’s sale, won’t do the trick. You can find some fresh roses of good quality, but you must be choosy and know where to shop.

Here a couple of hints for you gents. If the cheap roses you’re considering are half open when you buy them, they’ll be losing petals by tomorrow morning. Thus, this bouquet becomes much less convincing to the lady of your intended sentiments. The buds must be just on the verge of opening. You must also know that Valentine’s and Mother’s Day are not usually good dates to find good deals on cheap roses.

For fresh roses that are both relatively inexpensive and of good quality, your best bet may be found online, as these shops deal in volume and typically have less overhead than the famed flower purveyor in an exclusive downtown location. However, an independent flower stand might have just what you’re looking for, both in quality and wallet-friendliness.

There are other options, besides the fresh roses, which are available at times of the year when roses carry a price tag that make your bouquet a truly luxury purchase. Silk roses are one such alternative. Technology has advanced to the extent that your true love may not be able to tell the difference, at least, not until she sees there’s no water required! What’s remarkable about silk roses is that not only are they stunning reproductions, they’re also cheap roses, especially when you consider they may be washed and last for years.

A silk rose of superior quality, tied with lace and a delicate red satin ribbon will be prized as highly as the fresh rose. She’ll doubtless place it in a bud vase to repose on her dresser for years to come. Each time she sees it, it reminds her of how wonderful you are.

Blown glass roses are equally lovely and are well received by any woman. The realism, combined with the cleverness of this unusual medium, make this option quite attractive. Again, these cheap roses are cheap by virtue of their longevity.

Now, if you’ve got money to burn, here’s the ultimate package. Buy a bouquet of long-stemmed red roses from the independent flower vendor. (You’ve got to save where you can!) Before you deliver this dripping-with-romance gift to your beloved, take it home and arrange them in a vase. Get the digital camera out and snap pics from all four sides. Now, deliver the fresh bouquet. Take your pics to a florist, who can recreate a silk reproduction which keeps forever. By the time the blooms fade, your everlasting bouquet is ready.

Your lady love is guaranteed to love any of these options. Just never tell her they’re cheap roses.
